SECOND COLLECTION - March 13th & 14th
Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection. This collection calls us to focus on our calling as Catholics to care for all human life and preserve its dignity and also supports projects all over the world that provide humanitarian assistance, and emergency relief. CRS has responded in Haiti and Chile with earthquake relief.
FASTING & ABSTINENCE: Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, other suitable forms of self-denial are encouraged. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

It begins with a Weekend…A three day weekend helps you experience your Catholic faith and encourages a spiritual life that is filled with joy, laughter, and enthusiasm. You are invited to seek an enriched relationship with God within the framework of a Christian Community. Catholic parishes throughout the diocese host these weekends. From Thursday evening through Sunday evening a team of Catholic lay people and spiritual advisors will talk and lead discussions emphasizing: the meaning of grace and the sacraments; the need for prayer; and ways of living our life in union with God. Our area is hosting a Men’s and a Women’s Cursillo weekend at Jubilee House in Abingdon in the coming months: Men’s weekend: April 15-18 (Contact Tom Boyle at 276-525-1104) and Women’s Weekend: May 13-16 (Contact Ann Baldwin at 276-783-4474). Please take an informational brochure and application which are available in the back of the church.
Family Dinner & Movie Night at St. Jude
Please join us Friday, March 26th, at 6:00 pm for the critically acclaimed animated movie Up & Stations of the Cross. Our Lenten meal will include vegetable soup, mac & cheese, drinks, and movie snacks & desserts! This is a great opportunity for families to enjoy quality time with other families in our parish. This family event is free to all who wish to come.
There are many new books in the downstairs St. Jude Library thanks to recent donations. So many new books means that a variety of offerings is maintained even as some older or less reader-friendly books are withdrawn. We hope that you locate a book that is right for you.
"Thank You" to our benefactors from the Library Volunteers. For the books, also for the attractive carpet now enhancing the reading and conversation area! Our Children's and Video Sections remain a current focus for improvement, if that is an inspiration to anyone out there . . .
